Hey! Hows everything going back home? Well i sent couple of letters this past week wednesday because the mission president let us write you. so i hope you got it. oh and i got the packages too, thanks! it was way good and the pillow is comfortable with the hawaiian print, haha i laughed when i saw it but yeah.
so San Diego is way sweet its so nice here. the weather is so good, but like in the nights it gets pretty cold, but not too bad or at least not as bad as Utah. but i got my first companion out here in the field. His name is Elder Burnell and he's pretty cool, good guy/ elder. he is from utah and has been out for 6 months, but its funny kus he was first called as english speaking and then he got switched to spanish the first day he got here. that would be pretty funny, it would have been hard. but he's pretty good at it, he understands a lot. Our area in the mission is called El Cajon but we also cover an area called Santee. its a huge mission and the mission president and everyone says that it needs work. it's true cause its only a branch but the people in the branch are super nice. it was funny because the day of transfers i was so excited to know where i was going but i had to wait for a long time to find out i dont know why though, so i had to preocuppy myself with stuff haha, but yeah its good out here but really tough too. My companion has been really sick too so we couldn't really do any work because he had to rest, which is kind of was lame but all good, i finally read the book of mormon again. so yup i know its true haha. but so yeah really havent gotten to do any real work but we will this week. this week we have zone conference and then this thing they call MTE which is like something, i dont know haha. but all i know is afterward we have like these coaches who come and watch us for two days and help us apply the things we learned from the conference and then he like gives feedback. but our zone leaders called and told me i am going to have to be a coach, which is retarded i dont even know anything but its all good. so yup that is what we got for this next week.
But anyways Mom we went to the Mormon Battalion visitors center. it was pretty sweet, it shows like a video and what you kind of would have experienced and what they want through, its a pretty cool story and the presentation of it is pretty hilarious too, we had this old couple show us around.. oh man it was funny, but it reminded me of you. i could totally see you and dad doing that haha, but you would like that place because its exactly the cowboy and frontier stuff that you like, haha.
And then after that we went kind of street contacting. People can be jerks, so dumb sometimes, we can be smiling and be nice and they would just give you the kind look where they don't acknowledge you, but man, they are lucky i'm a missionary and have the pure love of Christ, or at least trying... haha. like this one guy, aparently there are alot of arab people here... they call um caldians i think, but yeah, they are..... and so i saw one and thought he was a mexican and so i was "hola, como esta," and then he was, "you###, i'm not a ####mexican," and i was like oh.. dang thats right people swear in the real world haha.. and then he was like yeah yeah this world is bleap bleepp bleepp,... i was like braddah you have one dirty mouth, but i couldn't say anything i just froze, it was so funny and then my companion saved me and we left and we were just laughing about it forever.
And yeah another story, so we went to a members house, and here's me thinking (oh thank you God, you are the best) and so we are talking to the member and we asked if she had referrals for like anyone we can teach. Oh yeah by the way - give referals to the missionaries we need it plus its the best way! ok, so she starts talking and talking and i thought she was talking about her friend that we could teach possibly, and while she is talking I probably got like two words, "i didn't see and i didn't feel or something" haha and my face the whole time was this :0, with my jaw touching the floor... i didn't know anything. haha so after i asked my comp so what did she say about her friend and he laughed and said she was talking about her conversion story. that first day was the day i realized i'm a dead man haha, i didnt get anything haha and so i was like yup now i know why we are called for 2 years haha. there is another story too with a investigator named Marcos, so we are teaching him and talking with him and everything and i didn't really say anything because he was talking a lot and i didn't know what he was talking about. but during parts of the lesson he would get up and act out stuff. and i thought to myself, maybe he's playing charades with me hahaha kus he thinks i don't understand, and he was right - kus i didnt haha, but his acting out didn't help hahah. so he sits back down and then tells me two words, he turns straight at me (at which moment i about peed my pants) and said "Platica conmigo" and so i got the conmigo part, but that's about it, conmigo means with me. and so i sat there and asked him to repeat it, i felt retarded haha oh man. and he said it again, and i sat there like i was like oh i am officially retarded someone said one word and i cant respond haha. and so i turn to my companion thinking he would explain it to me, but he turns to Marcos and says sorry he doesn't speak alot of spanish and then i just sat there with my smile on my face and said si. and that is about the intelligence level of a household plant. so yup my name now is elder Roca kus i am basically like a rock in the lessons, haha. I just sit there, haha. but i keep trying and trying to learn and speak more spanish to get better, but that's a couple of funny stories for you. but oh, by the way it is going good and its fun and general conference was way good and gave me a boost of more faith along with the scriptures too. so its been really good. i cant wait for this next week to prove myself, haha. oh and dad did you watch priesthood? it was so good yeah! so sick i liked the talk about paciencia by President Uchtdorf and yeah, general conference was really good, it was funny though i fell asleep while they were sustaining all 1000 people of the 70 it seemed like so i missed the first talk haha i felt bad. but yup all is good, hope everything is good back home, praying for you guys, and you too carly - hope school and finals are going good. i thought i would throw out a shout out for you haha. but I love you alot (thats directed for everybody).
